Karen has dedicated her life to public service, beginning her journey at just 11 years old as a volunteer for the AIDS Project. Over the years, she has worked with numerous nonprofit organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Iris Network and currently as a corporator with Sweetser. In 2023, she co-founded Prostate Cancer Maine alongside her husband, Lee, and two close friends.

With an extensive background in advocacy, Karen started her career working as women and children’s advocate with Family Crisis Services (now Through These Doors), where she became certified in Core Comprehensive Advocacy, Intervention, Response, and Ethics. Her qualifications also include certifications as a Reserve Police Officer, 911 Emergency Dispatcher, EMT, Crisis Intervention Specialist, Security Officer, and training from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, among many others.

Karen is a multi-faceted entrepreneur and healer. She owns Dissent Wear ( www.dissentwearbrand.com ), a brand specializing in clothing, art, and skincare/self-care products. As a Doctor of Divinity, she provides spiritual counseling for all faiths (and non-faiths), officiating weddings, funerals, and ceremonies. Additionally, she is a certified Life Coach with trauma, ADHD and recovering from religion specialties and a Holistic Health Practitioner committed to continuous learning and personal growth.

Understanding that many people don’t have a traditional 9-5 schedule, Karen offers flexible and personalized services to accommodate diverse lifestyles.

When she’s not working, Karen enjoys life with her husband, Lee, ( TV News Anchor with News Center Maine & amazing REALTOR ) & and their eight children, four dogs, eight cats, and countless rescued animals. She finds peace by the ocean, her favorite place to recharge.
